The health needs of the entire country are marginal but for inmates meeting even basic needs has become
virtually impossible. In spite of life-threatening challenges, Health Through Prison Walls, with the help of a pro bono team of architects, planners and engineers have developed a clinic inside the walls of the National Penitentiary. This initiative began with a United Nations request following the 2010 earthquake and has taken more than a decade to accomplish. This panel will tell the story of the imagination and resilience of a team of professionals and the Haitian Prison Service and how, with virtually no resources, a functional clinic was created. Learning Objectives: • Participants will understand the requirements to develop and deliver specialized health services in a dangerous and difficult setting inside a prison that is often under attack. • Participants will understand the planning and design possibilities of using discarded shipping containers as a viable building method. • Participants will understand the extreme supply chain issues when working in a dangerous setting and the logistics required to deliver and erect the shipping containers
