CorWellness, Tallahassee, Florida; Robert (Ben) Shelor , Senior Policy Advisor, Bureau of Justice Assistance/U.S. Department of Justice, Washington, D.C. Alcoholics Anonymous (A.A.): How We Cooperate with Corrections Professionals to Carry the A.A. message of Recovery to Incarcerated Alcoholics [CEU] Room 204 This presentation will provide participants with current information about the primary program of recovery, the availability of resources and an open discussion about how best to encourage the corrections workforce to support Alcoholics Anonymous and indeed seek their own path to recovery when needed. For decades A.A. has cooperated with corrections professionals helping incarcerated alcoholics recover and lead a sober and productive life. Local A.A. members can facilitate groups and cooperate with personnel designated by administrators, as well as with those of the inside A.A. group. Experience shows alcoholics who attend A.A. meetings inside go promptly to A.A. outside, they are likely to stay sober and free. However, if they delay until they get settled, they may never get to A.A. We can help minimize this risk. Prior to release, there is often time to contact A.A. where they plan to live and almost always arrange a welcome for the newly free as fellow members of A.A., not former members in custody. Speakers: Michael A. , Coordinator, Cooperation with the Professional Community Alcoholics Anonymous World Services, New York, New York; Hon.
