Juvenile Justice Services Center The Philadelphia Youth Center is a 150,000 square foot Juvenile Justice Services Center providing a range of services for teens and young adults. Its main function is to provide a short-term residential detention facility that offers social and educational programs. The building is divided into living, learning, dining, recreation, counseling, judicial and administrative areas, including a 10,000 square foot state-of-the-art medical and dental suite. The facility has 10 classrooms, a gymnasium, a health clinic, outdoor recreation spaces and a garden for residents. The heart of the educational mission for students at the Philadelphia Juvenile Justice Center School is to provide personalized learning for each student to achieve credits toward completing Pennsylvania requirements for their High School Diploma, GED and Post-Secondary Success for the 21 st Century. Our educators strive to achieve this by creatively incorporating the Common Core Curriculum through real life experiences such as: remedial and accelerated programming to build skills and credits; career and technical training; character development through PBIS; mentorship; community partnerships. Curran-Fromhold Correctional Facility The Curran-Fromhold Correctional Facility is named in honor of Warden Patrick N. Curran and Deputy Warden Robert F. Fromhold, who were murdered at Holmesburg Prison on May 31, 1973. They are the only PPS staff known to have been killed in the line of duty.Opening in 1995, the Curran-Fromhold Correctional Facility (CFCF) is the largest PPS facility. CFCF consists of four housing buildings and an administration/core building. Each building has eight housing units, or pods, four on each floor. Each pod consists of 32 cells, divided into two tiers, organized around a common living and dining area. Inmates housed on each pod have access to indoor and outdoor recreation, medical triage, law library and program area. The core building includes the administrative offices for the Commissioner of Prisons, central administrative staff, the warden and facility staff. Facilities for intake and reception, along with industrial shops, educational classrooms and program areas, also are included in the core building. A bail commissioner, court staff and public defenders are on site, and lineups are conducted at CFCF. Occupying one full acre of the 25-acre facility is a cook-chill food production facility with the capacity to produce 40,000 meals daily.CFCF serves as a 24-hour intake center for adult males, and almost 30,000 males are processed through the facility´s receiving room on an annual basis. All new inmates undergo an admissions and diagnostics process, which includes classification; orientation; medical examination; issuance of an inmate handbook, clothing and personal care items; and social service assessment
