Learning Objectives: • Participants will be able to define sex trafficking. • Participants will learn how to identify victims and predators of sex trafficking in custody. • The workshop will assist facilities with developing an effective assessment process in order to identify victims in custody. Despite widespread use, it was not until a 2016 ProPublica investigation “Machine Bias” that risk assessment developers, researchers and justice agencies were directed to examine the potential for tools to extend systematic biases. It is crucial for staff to increase their understanding of risk assessment design and development, understand the value of collaboration when developing assessment tools and understand the accuracy and effect of assessment tools that are used.
