B-2H New Findings from the Bureau of Justice Statistics on the U.S. Prison Population, Correctional Responses to the Opioid Crisis and Post-Prison Mortality

This workshop will cover new findings from BJS’s Survey of Prison Inmates (SPI) on work assignments in prison and measures of sexual orientation and gender identity (SOGI); provide a demonstration of a new BJS tool for users to analyze the SPI data; present on local jail jurisdictions’ responses to the opioid crisis; and highlight new findings from the first study conducted by BJS and the U.S. Census Bureau on post-prison mortality. Participants will learn of a new tool to analyze data on the prison population, and better understand practices related to the detection and treatment of opioid use disorder (OUD) among confined populations and community supervision practices to • Participants will be aware of findings from BJS’s Survey of Prison Inmates (SPI) on work assignments in prison, will become familiar with the approach used to measure sexual orientation and gender identity in potentially limit mortality.
