Youth in juvenile justice facilities often present with deficits in both literacy and self-regulation skills, which can lead to negative postsecondary outcomes and increased rates of recidivism. This presentation will describe the importance and development of self-regulation skills in adolescents served in juvenile justice settings, as well as specific methods for integrating literacy and self-regulation instruction. The presentation will conclude with ideas for supporting the generalization of these skills to other settings. Learning Objectives: 1. Participants will be able to describe the role self-regulation plays in the development of literacy skills.
