Utilizing the community model while the person is incarcerated teaches the importance and responsibility of becoming part of prosocial groups. Prosocial groups seek to benefit the group as whole, in addition to, or before the individual himself. The vast majority of the inmate population will be released one day. B-2A Human Rights: Connecting the Dots Crystal Ballroom A Track: Prisons

The commitment to human rights is part of our ongoing drive to be a better, more ethical profession. This workshop is designed to assist participants to connect the dots between international human rights conventions and facility policies and procedures. Steps to building a human rights risk analysis that identifies facility level considerations will be shared. The link between human rights in correction/detention environments as part of the broader trend toward criminal justice reform will be explored. Specific innovations in human rights for correctional leaders, including potential performance metrics for human rights policy implementation will also be discussed. Learning Objectives: 1. Identify specific human rights that are most affected by correctional/detention facilities and staff. 2. Prioritize identified human rights by level of importance and level of institutional control. 3. Determine current actions that improve or take away from prioritized human rights.
