A-1F Breaking the Intergenerational Cycles of Addiction: Effective Treatment Strategies for Offenders (CE, CERP, CME, Y CE) Grand Ballroom 12 Track: Medical Sponsored by the Substance Use Disorders Committee Drug-involved offenders are often trapped in intergenerational cycles of trauma and addiction. Long-term recovery from addiction is possible when treatment explores the root causes of addiction. The session will offer an interactive discussion about familial patterns of trauma, abuse and addiction, and strategies to break these damaging multi-generational cycles, particularly among individuals involved in the criminal justice system. The presentation will also touch on the unique opportunities and challenges faced by corrections and treatment professionals when collaborating to offer effective treatment to offenders.

Learning Objectives: 1. Participants will be able to identify strategies for helping offenders to break intergenerational cycles of addiction. 2. Participants will be able to construct the World of Abnormal Rearing (WAR) Cycle and how it may impact offenders with substance use disorders. 3.Participants will be able to identify science-based programs and practices used in the effective treatment of offenders with substance use disorders.
