A-1C Ohio’s Transition to an Electronic Grievance System for Incarcerated Persons Crystal Ballroom C Track: ACA Resources This workshop will demonstrate Ohio’s move to an electronic grievance procedure was successful and increased access to grievances thereby improving the complaint process for the incarcerated population and the staff of the agency. It will provide a historical perspective on Ohio’s grievance procedure and how it was managed with paper forms for decades. The workshop will then explain why Ohio moved to an electronic system in 2017 and provide details on the workings of the system. Using annual grievance data, it will compare before and after statistics and will then share “lessons learned” about implementing an electronic grievance procedure and how to manage for the long term. How to Engage Employers in Second Chance Hiring Crystal Ballroom D Track: Reentry This workshop will explore the importance of engaging employers in the conversation at the right time in the right way regarding hiring those in need of second chances. The Texas Prison system has worked to engage employers by educating them on the trades, skills and post release support systems that are provided once an inmate is released from the Prison system. The Education system teaches Rehabilitation, Manufacturing provides on the job training and Parole/Probation provides support/supervision. Participants will be able to learn how to engage employers on what clients being released from the prison system have to offer to their companies. 3.Participants will learn how to engage employers on the importance of hiring or offering jobs prior to release into the community and how to bring employers into facilities for job fairs in structured manor for positive outcomes.
