C-1E Employee Support Services: A Person-Centered Approach Benefiting Individuals, Their Workplace, and Their Communities Crystal Ballroom E Track: Other — Staff Training Corrections staff are exposed, directly and indirectly, to incidents involving violence, injury and death while performing their job. Direct exposure to these events, as well as repetitive indirect exposure, can have cumulative and deleterious effects upon the health and functioning of corrections workers. Correction agencies may help mitigate the impact of these stressors by developing an employee support services program dedicated to implementing effective prevention strategies including building a culture of support throughout the department, ensuring access to culturally competent mental health and wellness services and reducing barriers to help-seeking within the agency. Learning Objectives: 1. Understand the elements included in a comprehensive employee support program.
