C-1B Leadership Development Needs Among Wardens and Correctional Leaders Crystal Ballroom B Track: Other — Staff Training This workshop presents findings from Warden Exchange program evaluation efforts and needs assessment identifying correctional leaders’ needs for leadership development including transformational leadership skills and change management and implementation skills to lead a more collaborative corrections and rehabilitation community by instilling a better prison culture. Learning Objectives: 1. Identify correctional leaders’ needs for leadership development. 2. Identify correctional leaders’ needs for change management and implementation skills development. 3. Identify recommended strategies to meet those needs using evidence from adjacent fields (e.g., healthcare, behavioral health). C-1A How to Identify, Address, and Neutralize the Misuse of PREA by Incarcerated People Crystal Ballroom A Track: Prisons Corrections facilities have increased avenues for reporting sexual abuse and emphasize the need to respond quickly to allegations, and rightfully so. But what happens when incarcerated people misuse the increased attention to PREA? How can you ensure non-legitimate sexual abuse reports are identified? How can you protect your staff from false allegations? And how can you do so and still effectively address all sexual abuse allegations through a trauma-informed lens, avoid chilling legitimate reports and ensure incarcerated people who report abuse continue to feel supported and get the help they need? Learning Objectives: 1. Identify why incarcerated people may make intentionally false PREA allegations. 2. Ensure correctional staff do not fear false allegations; and incarcerated people who make legitimate PREA allegations continue to be listened to and supported. 3.Effectively reduce or eliminate the use of PREA allegations as a weapon against correctional staff and other incarcerated people.
