B-3H The Complexity of Managing Female Behaviors (CE) Grand Ballroom 14 Track: MDST Treatment This workshop will explore how gender adds a layer of complexity to a correctional system whose policies are created for managing male inmates. The workshop will explore the utilization of CBT in combination with interpersonal skills training to identify problematic patterns and develop effective strategies to restructure negative thought processes, increase conflict management skills while improving emotional regulation. The workshop will address the types of boundaries, how healthy boundaries can reduce conflict and how healthy boundaries promote trust, accountability and self-respect. This workshop will explore how correctional staff can be fundamental in the development of gender sensitive practices to promote behavioral change. Learning Objectives: 1. Participants will be able to explore the impact of gender differences within the correctional setting. 2. Participants will be able to explain the comorbidity within the population. 3.Participants will be able to communicate the role of relationships of female inmates and its impact within the correctional setting. a trauma response, how best to respond, and how to avoid re-traumatization of the incarcerated individual. D) Lastly, the presenters will discuss and make suggestions for future research/program organizational developments to reduce the trauma to prison cycle. Learning Objectives: 1. Participants will be able to interpret how exposure to trauma at an early age shapes behaviors that contributes to future incarceration. 2. Participants will be able to identify societal and psychological biases that unintentionally can contribute to re-traumatization of incarcerated individuals. 3.Participants will be able to communicate the application of trauma-informed care in correctional settings.
