This workshop is intended to help supervisors and individuals improve their communication skills through an engaging exploration of the keys to successful communication. This workshop will explore various communication styles, quality conversations and handling those tough conversations by Managing Conflict. The workshop will also give individuals an opportunity to dive deeper on one of the most important tools to communication, listening! participate in conversations about advance care planning. In part, this may be because our staff are uncomfortable or uncertain about the medical/legal implications surrounding these issues. This presentation will address some of the common concerns related to care at end-of-life in the correctional setting and suggest strategies to better prepare the patient, and the system. Learning Objectives: 1. Participants will be able to define common terms associated with end-of-life (e.g., Advance Directive; health care proxy, etc). 2. Participants will be able to identify two common barriers to engaging incarcerated patients in end-of-life conversations. 3.Participants will be able to identify decisions that should be discussed with patients regarding end-of-life.
