It will help staff who are “first responders” know what is expected and how to protect all concerned. We will discuss helpful procedures and scenarios for staff to practice. This panel has many years in the corrections field and will discuss what has been learned from several crisis situations such as the one in Ohio at a corrections facility involving staff contamination. Also, discussed will be protective equipment and universal precautions. It truly takes a committed team with specialized training to reduce the risk of synthetic drug exposure. These illicit and increasingly potent substances — often laced with powerful additives such as Fentanyl, have led to many dangerous situations in our facilities. Synthetic drugs come into our facilities in very creative ways which demand staff to be continuously on alert to detect them through procedures such as K9 dogs, drone detection, mail surveillance and new technologies.
