CoreCivic Remembers T. Don Hutto 1935-2021

CoreCivic reflects on the life of T. Don Hutto, company co-founder and industry visionary, whose watch ended on October 22, 2021. Don was instrumental in founding our organization in 1983, but his impact on establishing best correctional practices runs even deeper. He was a key developer of the ACA Operating Standards by which correctional agencies are still measured today, resulting in better living conditions and programming opportunities for countless individuals over the years. A fierce advocate for correctional professionals, Don understood that the well-being of everyone within a facility should be paramount. His work to implement high correctional standards is something we still honor today, and his legacy within our company and our industry will never be forgotten. n Co-founded then Corrections Corporation of America (CCA in 1983), which later rebranded as CoreCivic n Served as the company’s first Chief Operating Officer and later as Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors n Prior to co-founding CCA, Hutto led correctional systems for two states in agency director roles, Virginia and Arkansas n President of the American Correctional Association (ACA) from 1984 to 1986 and was a lifetime member n Recipient of the E.R. Cass Correctional Achievement Award in 1987 for the development and advancement of operating standards that brought consistency to correctional management nationwide n Member of the North American Association of Wardens and Superintendents Thank you, Don.
