It is therefore prudent for not only health care staff, but administrative and direct care staff to be involved in identifying measures to reduce these costs. The Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice in association with the Augusta University Department of Juvenile Correctional Health Services implemented a program to determine medical costs incurred among youth in our 26 secure facilities across the state. We were able to identify the highest medical costs and implement programs to reduce them in collaboration with medical, administrative and secure facility staff.
