A-3A Correctional Intelligence: Roles, Applications and Successes Room 239 Tracks: Prisons/Jails This FDC Bureau of Intelligence presentation will share Florida’s approach to Correctional Intelligence, demonstrating its roles, applications and successes. The presentation will provide an overview of Florida’s inmate population, Security Threat Group population, facilities and staffing. The presentation will show the Bureau of Intelligence’s areas of concentration, specifically in the areas of Contraband Interdiction, Security Threat Group Management and Strategic Analysis/Intelligence practices. FDC focuses on a hybrid combination of criminal intelligence strategies, and business intelligence, both areas stemming from data analytics to create a cohesive, evidence-based approach towards producing a safe and secure environment. Learning Objectives: 1.Know how FDC’s Bureau of Intelligence utilizes multiple intelligence practices to proactively combat contraband introduction through use of Canine Interdiction Unit, technology tools, Procedural/Policy reviews, sharing of best practices, etc. 2.Know how FDC’s Bureau of Intelligence manages the Security Threat Group program through the use of intelligence gathering and a Security Threat Operational Review Management System that collects information on STG associates and members. 3.Learn how FDC’s Bureau of Intelligence uses Data Analytics & Strategic Analysis intel practices through multiple sources, generating timely, relevant, accurate and synchronized intelligence to tactical, operational and strategic level managers and leaders within FDC and sometimes to outside law enforcement/correctional agencies.

After reviewing jurisdictional data and participating in learning modules, jurisdictions identified their key factors contributing to length of stay. Then, jurisdictions developed action plans to address the identified key length of stay factors and improve youth outcomes. During the session, we will provide an overview of the LOS Policy Academy.
