Elayn Hunt Correctional Center* EHCC, the second largest prison in the state, houses a total of 1,975 adult male offenders in maximum, medium and minimum security custody levels. Baton Rouge Community College programs are available here in Welding, Carpentry and Air Conditioning and Refrigeration. EHCC also offers ServSafe Certification and Job-Life Skills Training. Qualifying offenders may earn certifications in National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER Module Credits), HVAC/EPA certification for A/C Technicians, OPEESA Small Engine Technician certification, and OSHA General Industry Certification. Some undergraduate and graduate classes are available for qualified students. EHCC also has a Faith and Character Based Dormitory to provide offenders with spiritual and personal development and religious programs to include discipleship classes. Offenders with acute, chronic and terminal illnesses are provided treatment at the Skilled Nursing Unit (SNU). The facility’s SNU has a sixty-four bed capacity and cares for high acuity level patients. To meet the needs of terminally ill offenders, EHCC has an end-of-life care program that is affiliated with the Louisiana Hospice Organization. Through this program, trained staff and offender volunteers provide palliative care to patients in the program. To fulfill the healthcare needs of offenders, EHCC is staffed with full-time doctors, nurse practitioners, nurses, a dentist and several part-time specialty doctors. Lafourche Parish Correctional Complex Description: The LPCC is a direct supervision complex opened in January 2019. The complex has a capacity of 644. The vision and mission of the Lafourche Parish Correctional Complex (LPCC) is to provide and ensure a safe, secure, efficient and constitutional, new-generation facility. This facility shall serve and protect the community, the staff and the inmates while seeking to return a productive citizen to our community through the use of technology, innovation, and comprehensive rehabilitative and reentry initiatives. The LPCC shall provide a humane parish-wide confinement facility for inmate intake, pretrial detainees, and sentenced inmates. The facility shall be operated in compliance with the Constitution; federal, state, and local laws; controlling jurisprudence; Department of Correction’s rules and regulations; and appropriate professional standards, customs and practices. The LPCC shall work toward the accomplishment of these goals through innovative, credible, and reliable strategies to include programs, services and opportunities in the following areas: education, mental health, medical care, jail ministry and religion, drug and alcohol use and dependency, family support systems, domestic violence, technical and vocational, and other meaningful alternatives.
