This presentation will look at both intellectual disability and autism spectrum disorders through a psychological lens, outlining diagnostic criteria and how best psychology can address both in a correctional setting. These developmental disorders will be discussed as they impact staff in any correctional setting. Helpful suggestions on ways for staff to address both disorders and ways psychologists treat these disorders will be presented. Critical information regarding symptoms, the importance of collaboration among correctional professionals (i.e. mental health, security, medical) as a multidisciplinary services team and case reviews will be presented. Learning Objectives: 1.Participants will be able to report criteria of intellectual disability and how this impacts a patient’s clinical presentation and correctional experience. 2.Participants will be able to explain criteria of autism spectrum disorders and how symptoms impact a patient’s clinical presentation and correctional experience. 3.Participants will be able to identify and understand the different types of clinical treatment for those patients identified as having intellectual disabilities and/or autism spectrum disorders and the need for short and long-term aftercare. D-1D The Throughcare Approach: The Rehabilitation and Reintegration Framework in Singapore Room 253 Tracks: Reentry/Community Corrections This presentation shares with ACA colleagues the Throughcare Approach adopted by the Singapore Prison Service (SPS), where continuous and coordinated efforts are taken to address the criminogenic needs of the offenders, from prison to post-release in the community. The presentation will cover how SPS uses evidence-informed correctional practices, community-based-programs and strong community partnerships, to maximize the rehabilitation and reintegration potential of offenders.
