Speaker: Harbans Deol , D.O., Ph.D., Medical Services Director, Nebraska Department of Correctional Services, Lincoln, Nebraska C-1F North Carolina Peer Observer Program: Development and Operation (CE-RN, CME) Room 256 Track: Mental Health Sponsored by the Behavioral Health Committee This workshop combines perspectives from facility custody staff, facility behavioral health staff and division-level staff to describe the process of creating, starting and operating a Peer Observation Program at a North Carolina Prison. This program uses carefully screened and trained offenders for direct supervision of suicide watches. A successful Peer Observation Program requires buy-in from staff across disciplines, careful upfront planning and continued investment, but it can yield great returns to offenders and to the facility. Our experiences may be helpful for individuals interested in starting their own Peer Observer Program and for people interested in learning more about peer observation generally.

C-1E Clinical Practice Guidelines and Updates (CE-RN, CME) Room 255 Track: Medical Sponsored by the CCHA Clinical Practice Working Group This workshop will focus on clinical guidelines and updates in Correctional Medicine and the delivery of care. The session will address recent changes in treatment and follow-up in providing care to our patients.
