Following a brief overview of the gang validation process and current impact of gang members on the North Carolina prison system, our workshop will describe the structural components and operating principles of the STGMU with emphasis on research-based programming, addressing criminogenic factors, measurable outcomes, maintaining program integrity over time and sustainable use of staff and facility resources. Learning Objectives: • Understand the impact of gang involved offenders on the NC prison system and its implications for intervention. • Identify research-based components of

effective programming and the focus on criminogenic factors inherent in the STGMU.
