Martuscello III , Executive Deputy Commissioner, New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision, Albany, New York Individuals with traumatic brain injury (TBI) are incarcerated at high rates. TBI can affect decision-making and memory, emotion management, sensitivity to sensory stimuli and challenges in social skills, and is related to co-occurring problems including drug and alcohol use, depression, anxiety and anger management. Incarcerated people with TBI may engage in behaviors that make life in prison challenging and that make transition from the correction setting to the community setting difficult. The Washington State Department of Corrections has developed a pilot project to create approaches to TBI screening, education and peer mentoring programs. A-4B Traumatic Brain Injury in Corrections (CE-RN, CE) Tracks: Nursing

A-4A Coming Face to Face with the Opioid Crisis: Strategies and Education to Help Implement MOUD Programs (CE-RN, CE, CERP, CME) Track: Physicians/Midlevel The opioid epidemic is an ongoing issue in the field of corrections, with the lack of access to effective care and treatment increasing the risk of overdose death upon reentry. The implementation of Medications for Opioid Use Disorder (MOUD) treatment reduces this risk considerably and results in successful reentry into the community and reduces recidivism. An evidence-based practice, MOUD treatment is an effective method to combat the opioid crisis. This presentation will provide an effective overview of training programs and a roadmap will be provided. Learning Objectives: • Participants will be able to identify the importance of MOUD treatment. • Participants will be able to demonstrate effective approaches to improve treatment outcomes. • Participants will be able to recognize potential barriers to treatment.
