A-3B American Nurses Association 2020 Correctional Nursing Scope and Standards of Practice Update (CE-RN) Track: Nursing This presentation will provide an overview of the third edition of the publication entitled ‘Correctional Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice’ that was published by the American Nurses Association in 2020. The document is designed for nurses to use as a guide to the correctional nurse’s specialty practice as well as to inform the public, who may need to understand the role expectations of this professional nursing specialty. Learning Objectives: • Participants will be able to identify Correctional Nursing Practice and Roles. • Participants will be able to explain the history of correctional nurses. • Participants will be able to explain standards of practice and professional performance for correctional nursing. A-3A Infection Control and Prevention in Correction Systems (CE-RN, CME, CERP) Track: Physicians/Midlevel This workshop will focus on infectious diseases like the flu, drug resistant diseases like tuberculosis and well-known viruses like HIV/AIDS and HCV, that are present in our populations. This workshop will discuss reducing dissemination of infection associated with health care by assisting with assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of infectious policies. Infection control practices are critical to reduce transmission of infections from one person to another, such as from a health care worker to a patient and vice versa. Our main goal is to protect public health and safety through the control and prevention of disease, injury and disability in the correctional system. Learning Objectives: • Participants will be able to practice prevention and control of infections associated with health care. • Participants will be able to implement support to prevent spread of infectious disease. • Participants will be able to prepare infection control preparedness and response strategies for emergencies.
