Downtown Detention Center and Behavioral Care Center Description: The Downtown Detention Center (DDC) is a direct supervision facility with a rated capacity of 762 and is the booking intake for all new arrests in Davidson County. DDC opened April of 2020 and houses inmates directly from booking (classification units), inmates needing temporary medical housing and safe rooms, maximum security inmates and male restricted housing inmates (RHU) for the agency. Additionally, adjoining the DDC is the sheriff’s office Behavioral Care Center (BCC), which is a state licensed adult supportive treatment facility providing gender responsive trauma-informed care to residents in a short-term residential setting as an alternative to jail. Residents who successfully complete the program will not face criminal charges and will be provided resources for continuation of care.

The Davidson County Juvenile Detention Center Description: The Davidson County Juvenile Detention Center has four living units; (Commodores and Bulldogs) with 27 beds each. The Bison unit has eight double bunked rooms. The Tiger unit has two, eight bed dormitory style rooms. Each unit is named after Nashville colleges. The facility has been serving pre-adjudicated youth awaiting trial. As of July 1, 2015, this facility also houses youth who have been transferred to the adult court. The Mission Statement for this facility is, “YOI is committed to improving the conditions of confinement for youth entrusted to secure care in detention, correctional and residential facilities through specialized programs. Through these programs and quality education, we focus on “front end” solutions and anticipate necessary “deep end” consequence to improve outcomes for youth and their families involved in the juvenile justice and child welfare systems.”
