Learn how both programs (Mountain Comprehensive Care Center’s NE KY Reentry Program and the Simpson County Detention Center) have been able to expand and adapt their reentry programs to include employment with outside employers for those who are in custody; receiving the same pay and benefits provided to all employees. Program staff will share their experiences implementing this expansion and offer guidance to those who are interested in replicating this life-altering reentry model. Program participants will be featured to demonstrate how resilience and willingness to change has been the key to success for these programs as they work through various roadblocks. Learning Objectives: • Identify the benefits of offering an outside employment program to prepare justice-involved individuals for reentry into their community. • Have tools and knowledge needed to initiate the process for an outside employment program in a correctional facility. • Have samples of materials used in the “Employment to Reentry” program. D-1H Correctional Investigations: What You Need to Know … Room 209C Track: Security When constructing a criminal case in a correctional setting, you must start with a solid foundation. This strong foundation will bear the “weight” of the case when faced with challenges within the judicial system. While investigations follow a basic premise, there are operations and challenges unique to investigations in a correctional environment. Staff need to be knowledgeable and prepared for these shifting challenges. This workshop will familiarize participants with an overview of the ACA investigation course; “Correctional Investigations” that covers the fundamentals of correctional investigations criminal and administrative cases; crime scene containment/management, search processes, collection and preservation of physical evidence, conducting interviews and interrogations, court testimony and much more. Learning Objectives: • Identify the need within a correctional setting for this type of course instruction. • Address the benefit of consistency within investigative operations. • Demonstrate the value of confident investigative staff employed within your organization.
