The Indiana Department of Correction and the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction have implemented in-house, state-wide response teams to control, contain and restore our facilities in case of an accidental release or intentional release. Objectives: At the end of this workshop, participants will be able to prepare planning objectives from an agency point of view; logistic considerations and team development; and steps needed for implementation with in-house personnel. of suicidal inmates. The centerpiece of these initiatives was the development and implementation of an Inmate Observer Program. This program utilizes inmates trained to observe those on suicide precautions or mental health seclusion. A multicultural poster campaign was launched to help to decrease stigma and raise awareness of crisis lines for correctional officers. Renewed focus upon suicide prevention is expected to help reverse a trend. Objectives: Participants will be able to identify the key elements for coordinating custody and clinical staff responsibilities; name enhancement strategies in the Suicide Prevention Campaign; and discuss a facilitating interview style that explores the eight suicide dimensions.
