Trauma-Informed Correctional Care (TICC) is a strength-based approach that is grounded in understanding and responding to inmates impacted by trauma and emphasizes safety measures for inmates and staff and creates opportunities for inmates to build a sense of control and empowerment in their lives. Historically, trauma issues and programs have been recognized for women in the criminal justice system, but recently it has become apparent men have higher rates of trauma than had been previously recognized. This presentation will highlight and contract the needs and types of trauma for male and female inmates and how they uniquely behave due to past trauma. Objectives: Participants will learn to apply principles in creating a trauma-informed culture for female institutions; identify key guidelines in creating a trauma-informed culture for men in a correctional setting; and implement training principles for staff in trauma-informed correctional care. Moderator: Michael Jackson, Associate Managing Director, Alvis, Columbus, Ohio Speakers: Linda Janes, LICDC-CS, Chief Program Officer, Alvis, Columbus, Ohio; Randy Shively, Ph.D., Director of Clinical Development, Alvis, Columbus, Ohio
