A-1A A Coat of Many Colors: Multicultural Psychology in Corrections (CME/CE/ Y CE/ CERP) Room 200 The correctional environment is abundantly diverse. Inmates and staff come from various cultures, religions and life circumstances.

A-1B Recognizing the Need for Standardized Nursing Care Plans within the Correctional Setting

Although the diversity enriches the setting, if ill-managed these differences can create conflict and reduce effectiveness. It is essential that treatment providers are aware of the multicultural elements that may impact treatment within the correctional setting. Multicultural therapy addresses and recognizes the experiences of minority groups such as oppression, racism and marginalization. Sound correctional practices include cultural competency. This presentation will define culture, address the American Psychological Association’s (APA) Multicultural Guidelines and discuss managing cultural diversity in corrections.
