B-4E Reinventing Volunteer Recruitment and Training Room 203 To overcome issues in volunteer recruitment and training, the Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) implemented a new web-based

application process. The process uses technology to improve access to the volunteer sections of the GDC website, created an online application, insured local control of volunteers and increased the security screening for volunteers. This combined with a “customer friendly” philosophy of volunteer training has revolutionized the volunteer programs in Georgia. Objectives: Understand and create methods used to make volunteer recruitment and registration easy and efficient; gain a knowledge of and have the skills to implement the methods used by Georgia to insure a high level of security screening for volunteers; and
